About Maggie

Maggie is a corporate attorney who focuses on technology, artificial intelligence and intellectual property aspects of business transactions and corporate matters. She has routinely served as specialized counsel and co-counsel in AI, IP, data privacy and cybersecurity matters, representing buyers and sellers in M&A deals and lenders and borrowers in financing transactions. Her experience includes negotiating licenses, sales, collaborations, joint ventures, and other strategic commercial arrangements across a range of industries including software, healthcare, manufacturing, media and entertainment, music, retail, luxury fashion, finance, and national security. She also counsels clients on governance, risk management, and regulatory compliance related to the development and use of complex and emerging technologies including generative AI, cryptocurrency, and sensitive data.

Maggie’s practice is informed by a decade of experience as a data scientist, which enhances her proficiency in the evolving legal and regulatory frameworks surrounding AI and data. She previously conducted research as an engineer at Google specializing in applied analytics and machine learning and led the founding engineering team for two AI-based venture-backed startups in security and open source intelligence. Maggie also worked on data policy at the U.S. Department of Treasury in the Office of Consumer Policy and served as director of the University of Chicago’s Computational Analysis and Public Policy program.

Before joining SouthBank, Maggie practiced in a Tier 1 Technology Law group at a top ranked Am Law 10 firm. She also served as a clerk for Judge Thomas L. Kirsch II on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

  • A global security intelligence software company on its merger with a global cybersecurity leader in AI-driven security operations
  • A startup developing an algorithm in the healthcare space on data sharing agreements with institutional partners
  • A private equity firm in its acquisition of a software company that sells donor information and proprietary analytics to non-profits
  • A private equity firm in its $200 million investment in an Indiana-based CRM software company servicing small to mid-sized non-profits in the US and Canada
  • A private equity firm specializing in founder-led, technology-enabled services firms, on its acquisition of a majority recapitalization in the leading global company in reputation intelligence
