Life at SouthBank Legal
SouthBank Legal is a boutique law firm that encourages its lawyers to combine high-profile engagements with a flexible schedule. Because our clients include multiple Fortune 500 companies, our attorneys handle exciting matters for name-brand companies. We also represent regional manufacturers and high net-worth individuals, enabling our new attorneys to quickly play a leading role in matters for those clients. Our size allows us to leanly staff our matters and all our lawyers enjoy significant responsibilities on their cases.

I appreciate working in an environment that encourages me to write my own story and cultivate a career that is personally fulfilling.—Erin Linder Hanig
After working in BigLaw and clerking for a federal judge, I joined SouthBank Legal excited to grow a firm that provides top tier service while embracing a collegial approach. Over the past 14 years, I have been fortunate to collaborate with many talented professionals, both inside and outside the firm, to solve complex problems and develop lasting strategies for success. One of the things that I enjoy most about SouthBank is the ability to work on diverse projects, whether that means serving on a national litigation team or deep-diving into a client’s business needs. I appreciate working in an environment that encourages me to write my own story and cultivate a career that is personally fulfilling.
"Erin leads our employment practice and has extensive experience in commercial litigation. Combined with her work at a national law firm and clerking for a federal judge, this gives her immediate credibility with our national clients across multiple industries. We are fortunate that Erin has built her career with us and to practice with her."—Timothy M. Curran
practiced at Am Law 100 firms
Fulfilling work and a full life
SouthBank Legal hires from leading law schools and many of our lawyers have clerked for federal judges and practiced at Am Law 100 firms. This enables us to attract top-notch attorneys and a diverse client base. Because our attorneys share many of the same experiences, they develop camaraderie and can rely on one another to handle cases with excellence.
Unlike many firms, SouthBank Legal does not have a rigid billable hours policy. This allows our attorneys to handle the types of cases they enjoy while maintaining their responsibilities and interests outside of work. While our offices are in northern Indiana and Washington, D.C., our attorneys can live throughout the country and structure the work schedule they prefer.
Patrick J. O’Rear talks about southbank legal
The depth of knowledge of my colleagues—and the ability to draw on the expertise of my peers—is unparalleled in other boutique firms.—Patrick J. O’Rear
I joined SouthBank Legal from an international Am Law 10 firm in Chicago. My decision was driven by the many unique opportunities that the firm provides. From day one, I’ve been handed substantial responsibilities, from taking depositions to handling dispositive motions and examining witnesses at trial. These experiences have allowed me to develop as an all-around litigator while handling high-profile, significant matters for many of the firm’s clients.
On top of that, I’ve had the opportunity to work with top-notch lawyers who are committed to making the firm a great place to practice. SouthBank Legal’s attorneys have worked in “big law,” clerked for federal judges, served as prosecutors, and taught at top law schools. The depth of knowledge of my colleagues—and the ability to draw on the expertise of my peers—is unparalleled in other boutique firms. The firm’s attorneys and staff also place a premium on ensuring a team-oriented environment, which makes working at SouthBank Legal a rewarding and enjoyable experience.
"Patrick’s credentials are excellent—he has a degree in aerospace engineering, graduated with highest honors from law school, and practiced at an AmLaw 10 law firm. On top of this, clients love him and he has quickly become a go-to associate, working for national clients and examining witnesses in federal trials."—Jesse M. Barrett
