About Jon
Jon is a member of SouthBank Legal’s Chambers-ranked litigation practice. An experienced litigator, Jon focuses on representing commercial clients in complex civil matters in federal trial and appellate courts throughout the country. Jon has represented clients in a wide array of matters, including commercial disputes and arbitrations, class actions, antitrust cases, and matters involving significant constitutional issues, and he has extensive experience in all stages of litigation, including discovery, trial, and appeal. Jon also represents clients in confidential internal investigations and investigations before federal regulatory agencies. Jon’s clients have included numerous Fortune 500 companies in diverse industries, including retail, energy, health care, health insurance, and aerospace manufacturing, as well as high-profile individuals and media entities. A trusted advocate and strategic thinker, Jon combines his experience, skills, and judgment to help his clients successfully navigate their most difficult matters.
Prior to joining SouthBank, Jon practiced in the Washington, D.C. office of an Am Law 100 firm as a member of its national, award-winning litigation department. Jon also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Paul V. Niemeyer on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
Jon is a graduate of Notre Dame Law School where he was awarded the Colonel William J. Hoynes prize for finishing first in his class. During law school, Jon was the Executive Articles Editor for Volume 89 of the Notre Dame Law Review, served as a research assistant to then-Professor Amy Coney Barrett, and received multiple awards for his legal writing. During his undergraduate studies and law school at Notre Dame, Jon was a resident and later Assistant Rector of St. Edward’s Hall.

CONSTITUTIONAL ISSUES
- Obtained summary judgment in favor of a high-profile media publication in a defamation case involving complex climate change issues, the First Amendment, and Section 230 of Communications Decency Act
- Represented a Fortune 500 tobacco company in its successful settlement with the Department of Justice of alleged violations of the Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act involving First Amendment commercial speech issues
- Represented a diversified energy holding company in a Fifth Amendment takings case involving the federal government’s exercise of its authority under the Clean Water Act
- Represented a former cabinet-level official as a third-party witness in two high-profile defamation cases challenging news companies’ statements regarding the results of the 2020 U.S. presidential election
- Appointed by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit to serve as pro bono appellate counsel to an individual appealing the district court’s denial of his federal civil rights and due process claims
CLASS ACTIONS
- Represented an industry-leading credit reporting agency in several class actions arising under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), including one national action that consolidated for settlement purposes a dozen related class actions in federal courts across the country and resulted in a settlement class of thousands of consumers and a complex claims administration process
- Represented a Fortune 500 tobacco company in proceedings before the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) and resulting multidistrict class action alleging that the company’s advertisements for its natural and organic tobacco cigarettes violated numerous state consumer protection and false advertising statutes
- Represented a foreign pharmaceutical manufacturer in an alleged “pay-for-delay” antitrust class action brought under the Hatch-Waxman Act relating to the leading drug used to treat Alzheimer’s disease
ANTITRUST MATTERS
- Represented a Fortune 100 health insurance company at trial in a proposed merger challenged by the Department of Justice pursuant to Section 7 of the Clayton Act
- Represented two regional hospitals at trial and on appeal in a proposed merger challenged by the Federal Trade Commission pursuant to Section 7 of the Clayton Act
- Represented a foreign pharmaceutical manufacturer in an alleged “pay-for-delay” antitrust class action brought under the federal Hatch-Waxman Act relating to the leading drug used to treat Alzheimer’s disease
- Represented a Fortune 500 multinational food company as a third-party witness in a proposed merger of major sugar refiners challenged by the Department of Justice pursuant to Section 7 of the Clayton Act
INVESTIGATIONS
- Represented a major national retailer in an investigation by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau into alleged potential violations of the federal Consumer Financial Protection Act and Electronic Fund Transfer Act
ARBITRATIONS
- Represented a leading aerospace manufacturer in multiple international commercial arbitrations alleging breaches of subcontracts related to prime contracts with the federal government for the manufacture and/or retrofit of military combat aircraft
- Represented a major energy drink company in a breach-of-contract dispute with an industry-leading beverage company alleging violation of a non-compete clause
